5 Ways To Prevent Home Break-Ins

Break-ins occur frequently. Anyone can find a way to break into a house if they want to. Anyone can become the victim of a break-in at any moment, anywhere. When people go on vacation or start to leave their windows and doors open more frequently, break-ins happen more frequently.

Most intruders use stealth, speed, and force to break into a house. An effective weapon is a home security system, and an authorized fire or burglar alarm can lower your household insurance costs. Unfortunately, a home security system does not ensure that your house won't be a target.

The best strategy is to take precautionary steps to ensure your home is not singled out because there is no foolproof way of keeping it from threat or damage once it has been chosen as the target. Here are some ways to prevent home break-ins.
Always Lock Any Entryways
Most burglaries take place without the use of force. Many homeowners vacate their properties without locking the windows and doors.

Always lock the deadbolt if your doors have both a finger latch lock and a deadbolt. Verify the strength of the locks on weaker doors, such as veranda and sliding ones, to ensure they can withstand kicks. Don't forget to lock the door from the garage inside your house when you leave. Anybody can quickly access your garage door, even if it is down.

Cover Your Windows
It's crucial to close your curtains and blinds. You must ensure that potential intruders cannot see clearly into your home, which might reveal any of your possessions or give away the fact that you are not home. If a burglar has no reason to target your home, they will probably pick a different one.

Regularly Trim Plants in Your Yard
Criminals can hide in tall bushes and overgrown plants while waiting for an opportunity to break into your home. Low trees and bushes in front of windows offer no additional protection to burglars who try to enter through one. Remove any towering tree branches that extend to windows on upper floors to ward off assaults from above.

Never Leave Spare Keys Outside
In case you get stuck out of your house, hiding a spare key under a flower pot or doormat might seem like a good idea. However, that makes it easy for a thief to enter without mishap. Additionally, if someone witnesses you at any point obtaining the key, they will know where you are hiding. Alternatively, give a spare key to a nearby friend for safekeeping.

Always Stay Vigilant
Even though it's comforting to know that others in your neighborhood are looking out for you, you should also take care of yourself. If you don't pay close attention to what you're doing, you might unintentionally lay the groundwork for a burglar to enter your home through the front door. Although it might seem like a sign of paranoia, keep any travel arrangements and your identification a secret.

Conclusion
Home break-ins are unpredictable. If a person has a motive, these worst-case scenarios are possible to happen. However, we can help prevent break-ins by using the methods listed in the article.
